Sophie E Tallis
I live in the wilds of Gloucestershire with my family, two enormous white wolves, one stroppy cat and a host of wild dicks and moorhens who basically run the place! I work as a full-time teacher and have been deadening minds…ahem…I mean inspiring young children for the past 15 years.
However, my first passion has always been for writing stories and poetry, which I have done since I was a child. I’m also a painter and artist and divide my time between writing, illustrating and teaching. I love most fantasy although I have never read any Harry Potter and have no intention of ever doing so - really does not appeal. I read Tolkien over 20yrs ago and still love him but my favourite fantasy writers are Gemmell, MaCaffrey, Feist, Mark Lawrence and G.R.R. Martin. I've been enjoying writer Peter V. Brett too. My favourite authors remain H.P.Lovecraft and Joseph Conrad among many others. I adore travelling when I get the chance, and have a deeply profound love of nature and landscapes, particularly those of New Zealand (where I spent 4 months) and Dartmoor. I enjoy stargazing, playing chess, watching films (especially sci-fi & fantasy) and buying yet more bookcases for my growing library! I am passionate about nature conservation and would describe myself as a lover of wild places and the written word and am a bit of a nerd! When asked what my interests are, I usually reply, “How long have you got?” Writing, painting, ancient history, anthropology, african and asian mythology, natural history, archaeology, astronomy, geology, world geography, paleolithic civilisations, art history, photography etc etc...

White Mountain - Book 1 of The Darkling Chronicles
A dying world hidden from our own. An ancient people conquered by human progress. A ruthless changeling bent on revenge and power…and a sorcerer and wyvern determined to stop him.
Amongst our modern world lies another, an archaic and hidden world of tradition, sorcery and magic. Lost long before the last Ice Age and barely surviving beneath the onslaught of human advance, it now faces its greatest challenge and its bitterest enemy.
As dark demons awaken from the past and a series of sinister disappearances and murders plague the secret cities of the few remaining elder tribes, a group of disparate travellers race against time to save a friend and destroy an evil that threatens to swallow us all…
“An epic fantasy onion - multi-layered and prone to cause tears!”
